GLP-1 companion
GLP-1 medicines change how patients eat. The nutrition around them decides body composition, side effects, and what happens after. This module applies the 2025 joint society Advisory, cited line by line.
Medicare GLP-1 Bridge began July 1, 2026
CMS BALANCE pairs Medicaid GLP-1 coverage with required lifestyle support
Protein first
During active weight reduction the joint Advisory proposes 1.2 to 1.6 g/kg per day, or an absolute target of roughly 80 to 120 g/day, paired with resistance training to preserve lean mass.
Small meals early
Smaller, more frequent meals and limiting fatty or very high fiber foods during the first days of treatment can ease nausea and other GI side effects.
Hydration
Vomiting or diarrhea can dehydrate quickly, and dehydration can cause acute kidney injury. Fluids are part of the prescription.
Every bite counts
Appetite falls, so diet quality matters more: nutrient-dense, minimally processed foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, lean proteins, nuts, and seeds.
The source
“Higher targets, such as 1.2–1.6 g/kg body weight/day, have also been proposed during active weight reduction. ... Smaller, more frequent meals and avoiding fatty or high fiber foods during the first few days of treatment can help alleviate symptoms ... Clinicians should emphasize a diversity of nutrient-dense, minimally processed foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, lean proteins, nuts, and seeds.”

How the app applies it
When a patient's medication list includes a GLP-1 (semaglutide or tirzepatide), the engine attaches these advisories to the plan automatically, the same way it handles warfarin or grapefruit interactions. Nothing is generated; the rule is data with a source.
See it live on Aisha's plan , who takes semaglutide. Drug information: semaglutide (MedlinePlus), tirzepatide (MedlinePlus).
This rule was clinically signed off by Dr. J. Bakhos after review of its verbatim source, following the same governance as every other rule in the bank.
