Diverticular disease - high-fiber prudent pattern

AGA Clinical Practice Update (Best Practice Advice; nuts/popcorn conditional, very-low certainty)

Eat more: other vegetables, leafy greens, fruit, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. A high-fiber, prudent pattern of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans is associated with lower diverticulitis risk (AGA).

Limit: red meat, added sugar, ultraprocessed food. Lower red meat and sweets, which track with higher risk.

Nuts, corn, popcorn, and small seeds such as strawberries and blueberries do not need to be avoided. That old restriction is not supported. A fiber supplement does not replace a high-quality diet.
